A New Year in a New Location!

August 25th, 2008 by admin

I hope all of you enjoyed the holidays and I wish all of you a very happy and healthy 2009!

Exciting News!!!:  As of January the clinic has a new home and will be moving to 618 East Girard Ave! (between Montgomery and Berks).  During the month of January the clinic will maintain Thursday and Saturday hours, and other shifts will be added based on clients’ needs.

I want to deeply thank the many clients, neighbors, family and friends who have helped bring the new clinic to fruition.  It would not be accomplished without all of you, and it has been a wonderful experience watching the clinic community grow.

I also want to thank Katherine and Angler Movement Arts for the use of it’s space and for giving the clinic it’s start!

I look forward to continuing to work with you all and to being able to serve as a health care resource for the Fishtown neighborhood!

Congratulations!!

July 24th, 2008 by admin

Recently several clients of the clinic have become pregnant! (If you’re not trying to conceive, don’t worry, it’s not contagious.. although often times they were receiving treatments together so maybe their combined qi helped influence each other’s fertility!)

I wish all of you a happy and healthy pregnancy and birth and look forward to meeting the new arrivals in the spring!!!

I published an article last year about how Chinese Medicine can be used during and after pregnancy and it’s explanation of some of the most common changes a woman experiences.  Click Here to read it!

Also, the Philadelphia Guide to a Healthy Birth is a great resource for finding local OB/GYNs, midwives, birth and post-partum doulas, hospitals and birth centers, birthing classes, and all kinds of holistic services to help you prepare and take great care of yourselves!  Click Here for the online PDF version or ask me for a copy next time you’re in!

Cold Chrysanthemum Tea for Summer Heat

June 23rd, 2008 by admin

Hope you’re all staying cool!  Last Week I recommended to someone that they make Chrysanthemum tea for dry eyes during the summer.  Then I happened to stumble upon a recipe for it online so I decided I’d pass it along.  It’s a really cooling drink and tastes pretty great.  You can probably find all the ingredients at the Spring Garden Market!

Summer Treat for Heat
Summer is the season of Yang energy and activity.  Under the rising temperatures, our bodies are especially prone to accumulated Heat and Dampness. The high metabolic rate causes much perspiration at the expense of Qi (vital energy) and body fluids. Certain foods and drinks can help cool the body and keep the symptoms of summer heat in check.

Cold Chrysanthemum Tea
This is an ideal drink for hot summer days. It helps to prevent sunstroke and clears Heat, benefits Qi, promotes body fluid secretion and is an excellent thirst quencher!

Ingredients:
60 - 80 White Chrysanthemum Flowers
3 teaspoon of Jasmine Green Tea
Rock sugar or honey
4 liters of water

Instructions:
Wash the chrysanthemum.
Put chrysanthemum and tea into a cooking pot.
Pour in 4 liters of water and bring it to boiling.
Reduce heat and continue to cook for 20 minutes.
Put in rock sugar or honey.
Remove pot from the heat and allow it to cool until it reaches room temperature.
Strain the tea and put into refrigerator
Serve the tea chilled and enjoy.
